Ilias Ion Livieratos

Greek-Romanian violist Ilias Livieratos, principal violist of the Athens State Orchestra, has been recognized with several prestigious awards. In 2022, he received the Swedish Jan Wallander prize and the Antonin DvoÅ™ák Society Prize at the international Nedbal competition in Prague, Czech Republic.

Originally from Preveza, Greece, Livieratos studied at several institutions including the Mozarteum Salzburg, Munich, Würzburg, and Stockholm with renowned professors such as Christoph Poppen, Klara Flieder-Pantillon, Grigori Zhislin, Midori Seiler and Ellen Nisbeth. Despite starting a medical degree in Athens he decided to abandon it for the sake of music.

Livieratos has worked as the principal violinist and violist at several orchestras, including the Greek National Opera, the Augsburg Philharmonic and Camerata/Armonia Atenea. He was also a member of the European Youth Orchestra.

As a soloist, Livieratos has collaborated with esteemed musicians such as R. Göbel and G. Petrou, performing Vivaldi's concerto for 3 violins and Bach's 6th Brandenburg concerto on period instruments. In 2022, he recorded Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with the Athens State Orchestra and in 2023, he premiered N. Paganini's Sonata per la grand' viola with the Greek radio Orchestra under M. Oikonomou at the Christmas gala.

In April 2022, Livieratos collaborated with renowned violinist Leonidas Kavakos for a charity concert for Ukraine, performing Brahms piano Quartets. In June of the same year, they performed together again as soloists this time, playing Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. They have several more concerts planned for 2023 and 2024 in Europe and Asia as well as a recording for Sony Classical.

Livieratos plays a rare viola made by Giuseppe, Antonio & Giovanni Gagliano in 1800 which is sponsored by Handelsbanken Sverige and was awarded as part of the Jan Wallander prize.
